I assumed that what was being referenced was the collapse of the USSR, which led to mass impoverishment of millions of people and no less than 10 civil wars (10!!). Russia itself just made it back up to the GDP 1989 level of the RSFSR in 2007. That's two decades lost. Hell you could almost certainly chalk the wars in the former Yugoslavia up it to.

well, if you think that Stalinism ended in 1953, it is hard to see what you object to in the proposition that its ending in the last 30 years was a good thing, apart from historical innacuracy
