The Irish government certainly hasn't. Its response has been to decimate social spending and public sector wages (at ALL levels including the very lowest) and to introduce charges for certain essential elements of health care, e.g. prescriptions and dental treatment, that were previously free on the General Medical Scheme.
And yep, according to the opinion polls it's NOT the parties on the left who are benefiting from public anger.
