First, a digression, but I always heard and found, that former Marxists were
the worst.

Second, I wanted to add this before when discussing the sources of responses
and Doug mentioned rising expectations as more fertile for left politics.
What do theories that claim capitalism's continual decline do to politics
and expectations?  Or, even more prominent in mainstream circles today, the
talk of US decline?
