I would second what Michael Pollack said: part of the problem with reading on computers is the fact that it's back-lit. E-readers which use reflective light move us a little closer in the direction towards a traditional ink on paper experience - and so seem to be more suitable for long-form reading than computers. The technology for thin, flexible e-paper is in it's infancy, but when it becomes effective and cheap enough, it will threaten the paper-making industries of the world. It won't be long before Trotskyists are bandying about changeable epaper protest signs at anti-war rallies against the invasion of... wherever.
