> People really want to believe that a single event changes everything.
> It rarely does.
No doubt in my mind this will prove hugely consequential. Not that this single event in isolation has any chance of causing a revolution in the U.S. But we're talking in context. And it's not only the U.S.
The world keeps shrinking. The life of modern societies, or -- more particularly -- the life of modern institutions (governments, armies, banks, universities, etc.) hinges increasingly on some measure of mutual trust. Widespread suspicion is extremely (and increasingly) corrosive. There's a reason why the rulers take it very seriously when their secrets are exposed and ridiculed. The ideology of power is power.
