Aside from the usual suspects, such as Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame, Assange and WikiLeaks have few supporters, certainly none that I know of in the mainstream media or in the halls of Congress. Why not? Doesn’t the public have a right to know what its own government does? Shouldn’t Assange be a hero instead of a villain?

I think the lack of public response is good and bad. It's good in the sense that most everyone understands that what is going on cannot be reformed. It's bad in that everyone realizes that change requires the destruction of a system that has become a totality. We all participate in this totality to the same extent that we have been cut off from one another, therefore to fight this totality feels like flinging yourself off a cliff.

So, there is a seeming silence. Fortunately, the hi tech world simmers with passionate hackers. To stop wikileaks, they will have to diminish that aspect of the internet that promises limitless riches. A Gordian moment.
