As I remember, the most terrifying thing about 9/11 was that it was the "Lusitania" of the next epic horror, and that henceforth, they would have the right to do anything they pleased in the name of security. Oh, excuse me, homeland security.

This had already started with the drug wars, which was, lynching made official and effective social policy. Preserved the image of the black man as lazy or criminal, affected few white people...most of those got the guard jobs. But 9/11 meant that the lyching could officially extend to everybody.

Everybody meaning everybody. They will certainly convict to set an example, but my guess is that this will make their problem worse.
