English composers of the 20th century isn't the most competitive group. His earlier "avant garde" stuff isn't all that unlike Stockhausen's in a broad sense - 99 out of 100 listeners couldn't tell the difference I'm sure - and the later Maoist ditties are hilarious. But isn't that piece on Stockhausen meant to justify the turn to Maoist ditties?
