[WS:] It is quite interesting to observe the reactions of Western media to
Assange and contrast it with their reactions toward, non-Western dissidents
(especially Chinese, Iranian, Russian, etc.) The latter are typically
lionized or even awarded Nobel Peace Prize, whereas Assange is backstabbed,
if not frontally assaulted. This gives credence to non-Western claims that
West championing the causes of freedom and democracy is but hypocritical,
thinly veiled meddling in other countries' internal affairs. One may argue
whether Assange is a hero or a marginal figure, but one cannot help but
notice that the treatment he received indicates that the right to due
process is merely a "privilege extended" in Western "democracies."
