If the poll asked whether people favor regulating pollution they'd say yes. If it asked whether they favor food safety regulations they'd say yes. If it asked whether they favor prohibiting banks making casino bets on financial contracts rocket scientists don't understand, people would say yes. So the poll results are all in how the question is posed. Like the polls where people say they want the government out of their Medicare.
