Edit Report To qualify for a job naming these operations one must have two qualifications: 1) Have failed in the advertising world, 2) Have an unshakeable belief in the value of Orwellian Newspeak.
The one common feature in all the names is their unfailing positive emotive values. Make everyone feel good about an occupation, oh sorry I meant liberation. This is from Army Times. The Army Times hardly gets into the mood of positive naming. They call it the Iraq war! That sounds nauseatingly neutral!

Say goodbye to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Effective Sept. 1, the war in Iraq will acquire a new official moniker: "Operation New Dawn."

..In the brief, one-paragraph memo, a copy of which also went to Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gates said the name change is designed to coincide with "the change of mission for U.S. forces in Iraq."
