I don't have any opinion as to whether or not Althusser's project has any truth value. I like it for aesthetic reasons, the same reason I like Bauhaus architecture and the early Wittgenstein. It's so Spartan.

And didn't he have some sort of intellectual development?  I've just read *For Marx*, but I feel like he softened some of his views in the early 70's. I'll abdicate from this discussion until I read Thompson's and Anderson's exchange on the topic.
