Every single instance of sexual abuse I know about involved a neighbor, relative, or family friend. 

No, wait, one friend who lived on an air force base was raped by a passing soldier when she was 11. 

OK. That's one out of dozens. 

The fear feeds on itself though. The street was a lot safer when it was filled with kids. Now you never see any kids running around outside. Not even in the suburbs. The streets are empty. That makes it seem more dangerous.
