That's the rational way of looking at it. But there's a lot of cultural baggage a parent can't attitudinally shrug off, even if she's able to rationally evaluate it.
Boys engage in a lot more risky behavior overall; not just drinking. If the explanation is biological, that might be a good reason to simply reverse how we treat daughters and sons. More likely they just take more risks because of this attitude and thus their greater ability to get away with it.
