I saw Beider Meinhoff Complex the other night. It's very good. John Waters put it on his top ten list in Artforum last month so it's making a second round in selected cities. If you can't see it in theaters the dvd should be out soon.

I mention it because I also recently read an excerpt from John Waters's forthcoming new book. The essay I read was about his friendship with Manson family member Leslie Van Houten and how it has developed over time. It's also a well argued and eloquent plea for her to be paroled.

I bring this up because it was so nice to read Waters talking about how he'd changed his thinking over time, from writing frivolously about the Manson murders in Shock Value to his thoughtful and informed writing about criminal justice and Van Houten now.

It's refreshing to see people change and develop their thinking over time.
