On the other end of the spectrum, NPR's All Things Considered obit of Howard was really disgraceful. They talked with Chomsky and Julian Bond, but then felt the need to have some balance--so they asked David Horowitz! Horowitz said the following:

"There is absolutely nothing in Howard Zinn's intellectual output that is worthy of any kind of respect. [. . . .] Zinn represents a fringe mentality which has unfortunately seduced millions of people at this point in time. So he did certainly alter the consciousness of millions of younger people for the worse."

where they note that it is rarely their practice to look for "balance" in an obit, using William F. Buckley as an example. I have no illusions about where NPR sits on the spectrum, but this seemed afield of even their usually craven apologetics. I mean HOROWITZ! There are plenty of halfway reasonable people on the right they could ask for some balance, but they give a platform to a seriously unhinged zealot.

Ridiculous.
