But what if it was politics that was just sublimated sports-enthusiasm?

A Turkish marxist told me once that he had moved to Britain because he had studied the militant tradition of the mineworkers. 'I came because I though the British were supporters [of socialism, he meant] and found out they were ... football supporters'.
