heh. srsly, tho. who came up with these tags? were they autogenerated by contributors - coz that's often the way they are generated? srsly2, long time ago, there was a great piece in a soc textbook, talking about the way we are socialized to see economics as reported in the news. as the piece pointed out, at that time (late 80s), what you always got from "the news" was always, always news about the stock market, the periodic unemployment report, housing starts, etc. if you could count on anything about the nightly news it was the stock market report. i grew up, watching that nightly news and seeing people screaming at each other in the pit it was that ubiquitous. it still is: ding ding ding goes the wall st bell and... off to the races. it's still a central part of "the news". i imagine the average person sees "news" as pretty much the equivalent of "economics" - which is pretty broad topic. if you look more carefully, you see "corporations," "labor," and "work". what other economic news is there? i guess trade and finance systems? me, personally: yawn. i know i should do better than that, but there it is. ain't called the dismal science for nuttin'.
but hey, that makes it a perfect niche for you doug. you can make it sexy!
