That's the stereotypical line of all lowland southerners about the hill country folk. That's like interviewing a Long Island grandma about the inner city. The fact that they're both New Yorkers makes it less trustworthy, not more.
You know who's brilliant about Texas hill country folk? Robert Caro, in volume one of his LBJ biography, _The Path to Power_, Chap. 27, "The Sad Irons."
