Oh, no doubt.

But maybe the more controlled Gaza experiment can provide some useful pointers, even if one really can't see it analogized to an entire large country. Such are the hopes and limitations of research.

Look, I don't want to carry this "laboratory" idea to the point of cute conceit. But we know enough about the first years of the Iraq invasion to know that key US players looked at the entire re-making of Iraqi society in exactly those terms.

Well, most experiments don't provide the results one wants, especially ones that don't allow for proper control of variables...
