Gisha: http://www.gisha.org/ - an Israeli human rights advocacy group - reports that Israel permits importation to the territory some 102 different items in all of which 38% are food stuffs, another 6% are spices, and the rest are mostly household goods. Some of the prohibited goods, e.g. toys, writing materials and musical instruments. are truly pathetic. Since the tightening of the blockade three years ago, importation has fallen to 2300 trucks a month, a fourth of the quantities brought in prior to the "tightening."
This is a blatant contravention of the Internationally guaranteed human rights of the inhabitants of conquered territories as well as a ridiculously counterproductive strategy for discrediting the Hamas regime. The fact that the current Israeli government persists in breaking international law and planning and engaging in thoughtless and self-defeating policies does not make the humanitarian convoys legal. Of course, sometimes laws must be transgressed to mobilize opposition to illegal and unintelligent policies of governments, so be it. Take the knocks and address the issues.
