Bhaskar Sunkara -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonapartism is a term usually used to describe a political movement that relies on a strongman. I could have said left Peronism. Either way, it was a bit of a silly descriptor since Chavez and the process in Venezuela is more complex and contradictory than that. Most of the work I've done has been on campus, so in particular segments of YDS there is a marxist underpinning, in others more of a social democratic one. It doesn't make a tremendous difference in practical activity at the present conjecture (apologies, I hate that word unless Perry Anderson is using it) to be honest. RE: the work I mentioned before: http://radicalebooks.blogspot.com/2009/07/revolutionary-strategy-by-mike-mcnair.html

^^^^^ CB: Yeah, there was humor in your usage, and actually it was kind of witty. I guess I was coming off of reading your article on Iran and thinking u were sort of criticizing Venezuela from the same "angle". But I think I was "hyper sensitive" and misinterpreting u (smile; defending my noble savage, Little Red Hope).
