It looks at least superficially like a continuation of the Chinese-Russian rail project that was being discussed several years ago.

China already has a large high-speed rail network and is aggressively expanding it. Recently opened Guangzhou-Wuhan line covers over 1000 km (600-odd miles) in three hours. Lines ten years old, like Hangzhou-Shanghai-Nanjing, that run at only 250 km/hr (150 mph) are being upgraded.

This story says they intend to extend it to Europe and South to Singapore, connect to India, ... http://www.inhabitat.com/2010/03/15/china-to-connect-its-high-speed-rail-all-the-way-to-europe/

They are also in negotiation with Brazil to build high-speed rail there. I wonder if that might be extended eventually? ___________________________________ http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/mailman/listinfo/lbo-talk
