I find it really interesting how widely this has been covered in Australia. It's true that many Australians enjoy feeling smug about what they see as American stupidity but this is a particularly ironic example as we have our own ongoing heated debates about what should be taught as history and what should not - debates which do get discussed in news-oriented print media very occasionally but nowhere else that could be called a popular domain. I even saw this story on breakfast television in a hospital waiting room!
