Transgender student says attacker motivated by hate, carved 'it' onto his chest

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef0133ed0b30 A transgender student who was slashed at Cal State Long Beach said at a rally Thursday that he was the victim of a hate crime, adding his attacker carved the word "it" on his chest.
Colle Carpenter, a graduate student who was attacked April 15 in a campus bathroom, spoke during a rally and march concerning his attack.
"I've been afraid to come back to campus," he said.
He said his assailant knew his name, pushed him into a bathroom stall and carved the word into his chest with a sharp object.
He said the attacker was trying to make him feel "less than human."
The slashing occurred about 9:30 p.m. after the attacker confronted Carpenter in the bathroom. The attacker pulled Carpenter's T-shirt over his shoulders and head and used a sharp object to slash his chest, university officials said.
The attacker fled and has not been arrested. School officials say the slashing was an isolated incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Johnny Leyva at (562) 985-4101.
