Why is it depressing? Where in nature does it say that in these times conservatives should do worse than liberals? Which is to say, the lesson learned here is that voters know that the difference between conservatives and liberals (Tories and labor) is not a difference that makes a difference.

I really can't fathom how you draw this conclusion. One can only protest against the form of capitalism that exists, and the Greeks' refusal of austerity is a real refusal, not of the abstraction that you want them to protest.
