If you read Joanna's response to my post, & my response to her, you will see that I agree with you on this.
Much interesting (shall I say suprenely invaluable) social change _begins_ precisely with undisciplined riots, which are gradually transformed into somethng more focused and discciplined. Moreover, the l ine between militant demonstration and undisciplined riot is somewhat vague, and not infrequently serious demonstrations will generate marginal rioting, which it is difficult to evaluate in many cases. The black bloc in Seattle I think was unfortunate: but perhaps such 'by-blows' are simply part of the 'climate' in which movement moves.
