US 'racial wealth gap' increases by more than fourfoldA new study
published in the United States has found the gap in wealth between
white and black Americans more than quadrupled between 1984 and 2007.

The study says the gap reflects public policies that benefit the wealthiest

The Institute on Assets and Social Policy study reveals that even when
African-Americans had a good education and well-paying jobs, they
could not achieve the wealth of their white peers in the workforce.

Professor Thomas Shapiro, director of the Institute and author of the
study, told the BBC he was shocked by its findings.
