if you want a much more complex account, go over to Al Jazeera English and wonder around. They've had several debates, interviews, and live footage. I had to do the same search on AJ for anything coming out of Iran. They also do good reporting in the US wars.
As for Thailand, it sounds like it's a complicated battle between two power elites at the top who are battling for support within a class war. It is very confusing to figure out. I've never followed Thailand. At a complete guess, it looks like the yellow shirts represent the urban elite, middle class and are probably favored by the monarch. The redshirts look to be rural and urban lower income. But their PM was a billionair tycoon who was also into heavy censorship. See? This doesn't get so easy to draw lines. The things that argue in favor for the red shirts, well they chose red shirts, the army was shooting them, and they were occupying the wealthy downtown areas.
I gave up on most US media to report much of anything on anything. The google news and news search engine seem very suspect, as if their search engines are set on stupid, more stupid, heading toward content zero.
It would be frightening to think that google uses reader hit statistics to key their news headlines.
