Jerry Brown reports $20.6-million warchest

May 27, 2010 | 12:08 pm

Hoarding his campaign funds until the general election, a frugal Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown has amassed a campaign treasury of $20.6 million, while only spending $403,000 in nearly the first five full months of 2010 in his campaign for governor.

Brown reported raising $6.7 million in the two months between March 18 and May 22. He spent $259,000 during that period, according to campaign filings made Thursday. Brown paid his top adviser, campaign manager Steven Glazer, $45,000 so far this year. The firms of some of Meg Whitman’s top strategists earn that much – or more – in a month.

As Republican gubernatorial contenders Whitman, former EBay chief, and Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner have pummeled one another in the GOP primary, Brown has largely sat on the sidelines. The two Republicans have combined to invest more than $90 million of their own money in the campaign. Brown's report can be viewed here.
