Stewart and others on his show have repeatedly said they are about comedy first, and if they can be funny in a way that is sympathetic to their politics, fine, but it is all about the LOLs.
So in a way they have said they don't think they can pull it off. If they were to take their shows [which air on a basic cable comedy network!] and turn them into serious political shows, then they abandon their freedom to do the absurd things that they think are funny.
