What's even more baffling is when they project that -- and then slam it for not being left enough. Jon Stewart does one thing well: media criticism. Since he doesn't take himself all that seriously, he tends to try to bring up the issue using comedy. As a comedian, he's a pretty good media critic; as a media critic, he's a pretty good comedian.
But really, that's it. So Dennis Perrin's complaints about him -- that he's not left enough, that he's not a very good comedian -- are fine ... but miss the point. While it's true that Jon tends to throw softballs to many of his guests, I don't think I've seen as candid of an interview with Obama as his last week. Could he have been stronger? Of course. But he got some good points in, and I think got some decent answers from Barry.
The other complaints I also agree with: his taste in music is downright awful, for instance.
Feh.
I had a good time out on The Mall, and I think a decent number of tens of thousands of others did, too. I don't rant about how much fun some of you have sitting in a stadium full of neanderthals drinking warm crappy beer and watching grown men chase a tiny ball around, so I don't really get the disdain for the folks who went last weekend's event.
