Yep, it's painful to be a transplanted Portlander; state tax policy is crushingly regressive in Washington state. Because the state relies primarily on a sales tax for state revenue, the effective tax rate on people living in poverty is about 18% of income; in contrast, the tax rate is less than 1% of income for the upper class. It's fucking dumb. (--But at least the poor get to buy tax-free candy again!)
