(forwarded from Principia Dialectica)
G. M. Tamas — author of the groundbreaking Telling the Truth about Class as well as a myriad of other publications, has been a member of the Institute of Philosophy at the Hungarian Academy (and is one of the institute’s past chairs) and is the latest victim of a right-wing purge. He was asked recently, at the age of 62, by the new chair (an analytical philosopher of language) to resign, on the pretext of his lack of formal foreign language competency certificate (he speaks exquisite English, German, French, and also publishes regularly in these three languages, and is also fluent in Latin and classical Greek) and lack of sufficient “professional” publications (obviously, Socialist Register etc. are not deemed professional and are politically suspect). Unfortunately, the petition has not been translated into English, but please sign it and please get others to put their name to it as a matter of urgency.
