What's the choice? Vanguardism?
There is no choice in any case. Only those in power can make choices!
It would take a revolution to install "direct democracy." But as a thought experiment one could imagine direct democracy being introduced from above in the u.s. What would be the result? Pretty clear: something far worse than fascism; unimaginable horror.
