Good luck with that; you're suggesting something far less regulated even than alcohol. In the US you can produce wine and beer, though not too much (~100 gallons? Check with your state!), for personal comsumption. Different rules apply if you sell *any* of it.

Rules for distilling are much harsher: there's no practical way to legally produce distilled spirits for personal consumption in the US, let alone selling some to "your friends" ...

There's a single exception for "science fair" type projects for kids, but it must be done at school, under the supervision of adults, and only with a prior permit which is fairly onerous.

The revenuers don't take kindly to bootleggers.
