That probably would be a good discussion topic - what was the legacy of the far left 1970s movements that had turned to armed struggle.

For the Weather Underground, its seems their main legacy was to provide the GOP talking points concerning Bill Ayers and Obama. For the European movements, the legacies seem more significant and longer lasting.

The Red Brigades, for instance, with their kidnapping and murder of Aldo Moro, seemed to have helped to block the possible formation of a coalition between the Christian Democrats and the Communists in Italy.
