Didn't the Nasdaq peak in March 2000 and then it started tanking because it had so many new tech stocks?

Perhaps the collapse of overvalued dot-com companies like Pets.com, Peapod.com and Etoy.com triggered the dot-com collapse?

I remember telling friends at the time that the dot-coms were going to crash, because most of those companies were brochureware that were supposedly worth millions.
