Can you recommend anything to read that does a good job of summing up the attitudes and reality of that era from a left POV? I was recently trying to explain it to a youngster who mistook a series of photos of Northern England in the 1970s for "the bleakness of Thatcherism." I was trying to sum up that this was a different bleakness, and the more I thought, the more I realized I'd better go learn more details myself.
