[lbo-talk] has the TP peaked

The "shift right" within the DP occurred over 35 years ago. And it was not just a shift in respect to the issues of the time: it defined the DP course as a steady march "rightward." We are for all practical purposes still in the "Carter Administration," and the Reagan-Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama presidencies have been merely an unfolding of the Course established by Carter in both domestic and foreign policies.

Mere description, even as powerful and as carefully reasoned a description as that offered by Domhoff -- whose work is (merely but still usefully) empirical generalization rather that an attempt to grasp the forces involved in the U.S. in the present period.

Yes, the bourgeoisie had a liberal faction, but a faction is not a class...

I kinda get where Hedges is coming from, but that essay is all bollocksed up.

I agree. But Hedges illustrated Chip Berlet's point about a shift right within the Democrats.

And apologies over the last paragraph or two of the second TP post. I am going nutz with economic anxiety... It's kind of typical that men react to fear with hostility.
