[WS:] Differences in the voting system - first past the post (US) vs. proportional representation (Germany and rest of continental Europe.) First past the post system makes it certain that no "third party" i.e. a party other than Dems and Repugs has a chance at the polls in all but a few really odd places, like Berkeley or Cambridge.
