[WS:] Privatization of the academe is underway in the entire US.  The series
below (based on QCEW data http://www.bls.gov/data/#employment) show private
share of college employment (NAICS 6113) between 2001 and 2009:

2001 38% 2002 38% 2003 38% 2004 39% 2005 39% 2006 39% 2007 40% 2008 40% 2009
41%

Another form of privatization of higher education is the requirement that
faculty must generate a significant part of their salaries from outside
sources (grants, etc.)  - which is listed among job qualifications in most
academic job postings nowadays.
