I partly agree with SA's reply but I want to add something: "what if" the Latino population in the US was muslim ?

When cheap labor/different culture/different language/different religion/different color all come together into roughly one "ethnic" group then you're likely to see what you see in France (or other European countries).

Don't forget also that for those muslim populations, Europe is seen before all as _the_ colonial power that oppressed them and still does in a way. I am not aware that the relation to muslim in the US is mostly based on such power relationships.

European anti-muslim sentiment is still heavily tainted with that colonialism and all the racism that comes with it. And we still have the "crusades" rhetoric too... That makes for a pretty messy situation...
