If the U.S. were to stop it's involvement now (which I doubt to be the case), the intervention will have led to the de facto partitioning of Libya into East and West Libya. It's hard not to define it as a war, however brief. The 1967 Arab-Israeli war lasted for less than a week and it similarly changed borders.
Moreover, a brief engagement would prove that the U.S. can easily get involved militarily abroad after Iraq, and will only encourage more wars and more ambitious ones at that in the future. You need a Grenada before you can move up to a Persian Gulf War.
