I heard it at a joke seminar that I took at U.C. Berkeley. It was a million nerdy guys from AI and linguistics, and me.

The seminar was just people telling jokes. When we momentarily ran out, somebody would hazard a few words on the nature of humor, then someone else would remember a joke, and on we'd go. Worth 1/2 a credit and a great way to spend a Thursday late afternoon.

It contains deep, deep truths.
