Sure, but Gorbachev didn't cause that. The moment was seized by Yeltsin and the barons in a coup against him (after they had faced down another coup from the other direction). If they hadn't seized the moment, communism would still be there in the same way it is in China.

So if it all ultimately had to be talled to one man's actions, it would have be the drunken fool Yeltsin. He was the sine non qua.

To each system its own Bush :-)
