That's both good news and bad news for Mumia. It's good news because he no longer faces the death penalty. It's bad news because now that the death penalty is no longer on the table, the appellate courts will not likely scrutinize his original conviction to the extent that they would if he was still facing capital punishment. Therefore, IMO it will be much harder in the future to pursue efforts to overturn his conviction. Therefore, as things stand now, it looks like he will be spending the rest of his life in prison.
