Overall, you're quite right, I'm sure. What had struck me
is a difference in a narrower social stratum --
upper-middle-class liberals, basically. But perhaps
English liberals are just less hypocritical and po-faced
than their American counterparts. As hypotheses go,
that one is definitely a contender.
