Correct. The working classes have had to do the work that 'theoretically' the bourgeoisie were supposed to do: overthrow the ancient regime. It simply was not a world in which socialism was in any way on the agenda. The Working Classes did a fucking good job at what they did do.

As Tamas points out these revolutions were essentially Rousseauist revolutions for equality (the abstract equality of bourgeois citizenship. We have yet to see if there can be a Marxist revolution for freedom.
