This is in response to Marv Gandall's posting of Frank Rich's column today re O'Reilly, etc.

Good enough, but what about the commentary aside's Rich by Friedman & Brooks. NYT is in emergency mode; Brooks isn't a Sunday columnist, and Friedman was supposed to be on "book leave" until Egypt went down. The themes of their column today are, in mainstream fashion, particularly odious. Are Egyptians institutions ready for democracy? Are the Egyptian people ready to do some hard work? This is, for all practical purposes, the liberal way of coping with what are clearly popular aspirations that cannot be tarred with Islamic radicalism. The point is never to mention American foreign policy, Israel, etc.

Rich, in his own way, also diverts us from what is central and important.
